Nissan does the R&D and provides the specs to Stone (or whomever the manufacturer may be). Stone charges Nissan the setup fee for producing this gasket. Stone also charges Nissan the manufacturing fee for this gasket. Stone then fulfills Nissan's order of a quantity of gaskets, which they charge Nissan a bulk price. Nissan pays for R&D, Stone's setup fees, Stone's manufacturing costs, including any shipping fees that may be involved. Any quantity Stone produces outside of the quantity Nissan orders is purely profit after manufacturing costs.
